Location Jewell is proud of its rich agricultural heritage and its central location in the state of Iowa. Quick access to Minneapolis, Des Moines, and Kansas City is possible, since Jewell lies at the junction of state Highways 175 and 69 and is only three miles west of Interstate 35. Airport service is available at nearby Ames and Webster City Municipal Airports (within 20 miles) and Des Moines International Airport (50 miles).
Community Assets Community assets make Jewell a favorable place to live: a variety of housing options with a five-year tax abatement on new construction, businesses and professional services, active community organizations, progressive atmosphere, four churches, full-time police force and friendly people. Jewell is one of three Hamilton County Main Street Communities and is proud of its accomplishments in its downtown revitalization. Jewell offers a growing retail base with a variety of home improvement stores, a distinctive quilt shop, restaurants, unique gifts and home decor.
Education The area prides itself on its fine educational system. Jewell serves as the site of the South Hamilton School District, a quality K-12 program in two updated centers that serve educational needs of four communities. District enrollment is over 800 students. Students and faculty have access to over 80 Macintosh and IBM computers, as well as the Internet. South Hamilton School also has its own website. Small class size increases teacher-student interaction creating a healthy learning environment.
Iowa State University, the Webster City campus of Iowa Central Community College, and Drake University are within easy commuting distance.
Health Care Jewell is proud of its fully staffed medical clinic, a branch of Hamilton Hospital, which provides prompt, accessible health care for area residents of all ages. Dental offices and a pharmacy are also available locally. Ambulance service to all area residents is provided by a certified EMT staff, and two hospitals are within 20 miles of Jewell.
Recreation A little over a mile south of Jewell, Little Wall Lake provides numerous year-round recreational opportunities: hiking, camping, fishing, boating, sailing, picnicking, swimming, skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing and ice skating.
The town itself has a wide variety of recreational choices: 9-hole private golf course, municipal swimming pool, hiking & biking trail and youth baseball, softball and soccer programs.
