Webster City is a beautiful city located along the Boone River located in north central Iowa. It is the county seat of Hamilton County. Webster City is located 10 miles from 1-35, and Highway 20 runs just South of the city.

Quality of Life Webster City has many fine parks - Twin Parks, Bonebright Museum Complex (includes a railroad BoonebrightCabindepot, original courthouse, original country school), Nokomis Park, Sketchley Park, Brewer Creek Park (which includes a walking trail), City Campground, and a pedestrian-bicycle trail. We have an outdoor swimming pool and Fuller Hall Recreation Center, which includes an indoor swimming pool.

Webster City has a fine library, Kendall Young Library, that was donated to the City by Kendall and Jane Young. Housed in a Carnegie building, the library underwent an extensive restoration and renovation project - completed at the end of 1998. The facility housed a number of collections including one of Native American artifacts, the Van Ness Doll Collection and a statuette collection.

Webster City has a recently remodeled movie theater that shows movies daily, and a Community Theater organization which produces plays using local talent throughout the year.

History Orignially named Newcastle, the post office name was changed for this town in 1855. An act of the legislature officially changed the town's name to Webster City in 1857.

Industry Webster City has a farming heritage; the community continues to rely heavily on the agricultural industry. VanDiest Supply, producer of fertilizer, is one of the county's largest employers. We also have several large industries. The largest is Electrolux Home Products(formerly Frigidaire Company), who makes washers and dryers and employ over 2,000 people. Many other local industries correlate to the washing machine manufacturer.

Education Webster City has a High School, New Middle School, two elementary schools, a parochial school, Iowa Central Community College center, and many fine churches, including Baptist, Catholic, Christian, Lutheran, Methodist, and others.

Local Government Webster City has a Council-Manager form of government, which was established in 1915 and was the first city in Iowa to adopt this form of government. We have five councilpersons, electred by the citizens at large, who appoint a Mayor, and then appoint a City Manager who carries out the Council's directives in running the City. There are four department directors under the City Manager: Public Grounds, Public BooneriverSafety, Public Works and Utility.

Webster City has a Municipal electric Utility, which was established in 1890, a Municipal Water Utility, Municipal Sewer Utility and a Municipal Airport.

Housing Webster City has established a new housing area called Brewer Creek Estates, with many fine homes being built. A tax abatement of a portion of property taxes makes building a home in Hamilton County even more affordable. The community is home to a Self Help Housing program, the first such program in the state of Iowa.
